The majority of characters can be identified by their respective icon on doors in the roguelike game Hades. However, some are unobservable, appearing randomly in rooms with no way to know their arrival. One of these characters is Thanatos, who is both a childhood friend of Zagreus and one of the romantic options in Hades.
Who is the character Thanatos in Hades?
Thanatos is the death incarnate, with Nyx as his mother. His older brother is Charon, while Hypnos is his younger twin brother. He frequently visits the House of Hades in order to perform his duties.
Thanatos has known Zagreus since childhood, and the two are quite close, although their relationship seems tense at the start. Thanatos enjoys challenging Zagreus, testing his abilities, and determining whether or not he is capable of breaking the surface. The pair may pursue a romantic relationship if Zagreus so desires.
Thanatos may appear in Elysium for the first time after your initial battle with either Alecto or Tisiphone. Zagreus is challenged to a competition to see who can defeat the most enemies. If Zagreus wins, he will receive a Centaur Heart as well as the reward for that room.
Thanatos may be seen in any room other than the Temple of Styx once his first encounter is completed. He may also appear at the House of Hades on occasions, especially if the player encountered him in the previous run. He may be found on the balcony next to Achilles.
To marry Thanatos, you must first be at ten affinity. This means you must gift six Nectar and four Ambrosia.
Thanatos accepts six Nectar and invites Zagreus to a fight. If Zagreus wins, Thanatos may receive Ambrosia in the House of Hades. This fight must be completed in order to romance Thanatos. This fight also grants Zagreus the Companion Mort.
