After several delays, the next The Lord of the Rings game has finally got a release date ...

After reportedly being postponed for quite some time, the next video game in the Lord of the Rings franchise now has a release date.

According to a financial report by the game's publisher, the Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be released sometime before the end of September 2023.

In the game being developed by Daedalic Entertainment, everyone's favorite twisted and decrepit hobbit will take center stage. It's described as a "princes of Persia-like stealth game with a branching narrative."

In a game, players take control of Smeagol themselves in a campaign that takes place alongside the events of the first book and movie in the series, The Fellowship of the Ring.

Gollum was originally announced in 2019 and was scheduled to be released in 2021, but it has been delayed by many factors. The very first gameplay trailer was released in June 2022.

It's always possible that the event will be rescheduled again and rescheduled even further, but for the time being, those who are eager to try it will be able to do it before the end of the year.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S sometime later on Nintendo Switch.
