Team Secret has had a rocky start to the Dota Pro Circuit 2023, with one win and five losses, but captain Puppey insists that drafting, which is often the culprit in these situations, isn't the issue.
"Obviously, we love our drafts because they got us so many wins. To be honest, no problem is there," he said during a post-series interview after beating Into The Breach on January 24.
Instead, Puppey blamed other things, like the meta rapidly changing. Lina was taken as an example, saying that it was fine one day but bad the next when people figured it out. The Dota 2 star added that their failure has been due to failure to grasp the fundamentals of the meta.
Secret has just one game left on its Winter Tour. It's against Nigma Galaxy, who are second in the table despite a stellar lineup. It's possible that Secret also will face a relegation battle if Into The Breach defeats Gaimin Gladiators.
Puppey is uneasy about being involved in a tournament before, but he thinks it will be "interesting" because both teams are in a "mess," with more going wrong than right. That ship has sailed, but it might be the turning point they need, especially now that they have one victory.
On Wednesday, January 25, we'll see how things unfolded in either direction.
