Microsoft reported a record-breaking end of the last quarter—an amount that has almost eclipsed the Xbox gaming division's revenue by 13 percent year over year.

During Microsoft's second-quarter earnings call, Satya Nadella talked about their success. "We saw fresh highs for Game Pass subscriptions, game streaming hours, and monthly active devices," Nadella said.

During the quarter, monthly active users exceeded a new high of 120 million.

Riot Games' partnership with Xbox includes additional unlocks in League of Legends for players who have linked their Xbox profiles to their Riot accounts, as well as additional XP bonuses and the ability to access characters immediately.

Despite the volume created by the Microsoft and Activision Blizzard merger, the acquisition hasn't appeared to scupper any of their greatest achievements. According to Nadella, the gaming giant has been "enliven by [their] forthcoming line-up of triple-A releases, including exciting new titles from ZeniMax and Xbox Game Studios."

The CEO also talked about the upcoming "Developer Direct" event, which will air on January 25. "We'll be sharing details and gameplay at our showcase tomorrow."
