Austin Butler is out for Atreides blood in the second installment of Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part 2, and fans who just experienced Butler's award-winning role as the King of Rock and Roll should get a completely different experience from what he's had on set before.
Butler is well-known for his roles as Will Ohmsford in the Shanarra Chronicles adaptation, but this is his first real venture into the genre of hard science fiction. "It was just so much fun for me, especially playing this role, to get to do something so different from anything I've ever done before," he said.
Butler has joined the cast to portray the as-yet-unseen character of Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the evil Baron who serves as the major antagonist in the franchise. Feyd-Rautha is no angel himself, being raised by his uncle to be a dark and deadly perfect adversary for Paul Atriedes and his intended heir who will one day wrest the crown from the current Emperor.
Butler is unable to disclose any specific information (no need to savor anyone who hasn't read the nearly 60-year-old source material) but he's willing to tout himself as a "heavy admirer" of his director, claiming Villeneuve as "an incredible filmmaker" and "an amazing person." If this approval is any indication, fans will expect to see a similar complexity of Feyd-Rautha as they see of Timothée Chalamet's Paul At
Part 2 of Dune: The Odyssey is scheduled to be released on November 3.
