Mark Hamill offers a nutty explanation for liking J.K. Rowling's transphobic tweet ...

Mark Hamill was exposed a few days ago after the generally progressive actor was found to like a transphobic tweet by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

After seeing a brief exchange between Rowling and transgender newsreader India Willoughby, the star has now taken to social media to explain why he pressed the 'like' button: it appears to raise a few more questions than it answers:

Hamill's overly diplomatic manner in drafting his response has resulted in some confusion over his position. While Hamill has been a well-known LGBTQ+ friend in the past, there is still an outpouring of questions about whether or not Rowling or Willoughby is speaking their truth to power.

In response to Fox News' apparent hit piece, India Willoughby herself appears to have grasped what the actor is trying to say — finding a mutual understanding and letting bygones be bygones and saying, 'Lots of love, Mark. Agree! Peace!' Willoughby also responded with another Tweet of her own coming to Hamill's defense:

Hamill is said to have liked India Willoughby's original tweet rather than Rowling's response, according to his fan base. However, given his prominence as a pop culture icon and LGBTQ+ advocate, he might have chosen which of the two statements to like the most.

There is another camp out there that has interpret Hamill's remarks as support for Rowling's right to defend herself and her identity, without stating it outright at the risk of settling himself on the slashing block. Regardless of the context of his statement, Mark Hamill at least made one point in his follow-up — Twitter is no place for ambiguity.
