RRR has been nominated for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes for the first time this year, but for some, it's not enough.
According to Variety, the song, "Naatu Naatu," was so popular that Academy members "want to put on their dancing shoes," which is no surprise considering that this song has received over 116 million views on YouTube currently. As the performers, Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava battle the wealthy British colonists at a rather "elite" event, the choreography for the piece is outstanding.
Many people feel that this film had so much more to offer than just the fantastic song, and they were surprised that it had been nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and of course Best Original Song in the only category.
Many were predicting that the film would be placed in that category before the nominations were announced.
Some left it out for a lot of other categories, and given that it is cinematically stunning, it is a shame it wasn't nominated for Best Cinematography.
RRR only winning itself the one award, leaving them feeling like the Academy did them dirty.
This user believes that without RRR being present all other nominations will be redundant.
Some criticize the Indian Oscar Selection Committee.
Some believe that this just reinforces their belief that the awards aren't worth watching.
Fans believe that this was a major blow.
Although there is a lack of disappointment, the film has already made history at the Oscars and may continue to do so if it wins its one nomination.
Come Academy Awards night, many will have their fingers crossed for the film in the hope that RRR will win the Oscar for Best Original Song, bringing further recognition and awareness to the film and all those involved in its development.
