Adult Swim had announced that Justin Roiland, the showrunner, would no longer be involved in the series going forward, which is expected to last for at least a seventh season.
Adult Swim is likely to be in a position to deal with the future of the program, considering that Roiland played both of the titular characters.
Adult Swim made the decision to remove him, but that hasn't stopped the Rick and Morty fanbase from having a bit of fun with the uncertainty and providing their own auditions.
The results are... well, see for yourself.
Katie here decided to toss in a bit of Bart Simpson into her take, while hilariously neglecting to change her voice when she steps off to the other side of the frame for her Rick. It's a bit awkward, but Morty is nothing if not awkward, and she's captured the energy quite nicely.
Justin gets more of that infectiously funny awkwardness (Can we get a, "how's it going on?") and quick-fire catchphrases. The Rick was quite funny, at least when it came to excessive burping.
Lord Sencii and Chaos The Clown, both of whom brought a lot of Family Guy energy to their auditions, demonstrating their unmistakable Peter Griffin chuckles as they deliver their (as is tradition so far) hastily improvised lines, might look to this article for reference.
Joey, who appears to have flipped his phone out in public because he's a committed actor, and when an opportunity comes, it doesn't matter where he is; it's time to record himself. However, his Morty and Rick both appeared to be a bit too impromptu, so overall, A for effort.
We would like to thank these exceptional prospective voice actors for volunteering their time to discuss their ideas for Rick and Morty Season 7 and beyond, although next time, they should get some audition sides. However, half of the magic we saw here was in the improv – so carry on.
This whole incident reminds us of a time when a Marvel fan page claimed that Scarlett Johansson would reprise her role as Black Widow in Avengers: Secret Wars, and the entire internet collectively decided to trash it with other far-fetched Avengers castings. We just love to see this sort of thing.
Another group of fans who believe they have found a replacement Rick and Morty actor on TikTok would genuinely and unironically wish they had.
