There are more than a thousand Pokémon out there in the world after Scarlet and Violet, but there are none more popular than Pikachu, who has quickly become a popular character in the anime series and is now used in an endless assortment of goods.
There is a whole other Pikachu that is currently enthralling fans across the world, and he's doing it with a soccer ball rather than a Poké Ball.
Yago Pikachu, a 30-year-old Japanese footballer who is currently loaned to Brazilian club Fortaleza EC, has been dubbed Pikachu in 2005 due to his short stature, determination, and speed. The name has since remained in place.
We can only imagine the surprise of Japanese soccer fans when they learned that Pikachu was coming to the J2 League. As for Yago Pikachu, he seems to have fully accepted his odd nickname, appearing on trading cards, club promotional materials, and his official Wikipedia page.
If we had a killer nickname like that, we'd probably want to keep it going as long as possible. Now, let's see if we can get Robin van Horsea, Martin Squirtle, and Fernando Tauros into the first team, and you'll have a real Pokémon collection going.
