For 40 years, Superman enthusiasts have been ignored, despite an iconic comic book friendship ...

Superman is set to enter a new era on the big screen. James Gunn is currently leading the DCU, and his first objective is to get a fresh Superman film underway. This meant a controversial U-turn on bringing back Henry Cavill, since Gunn's vision for the character seems to be a younger version of the hero beginning his adventures.

Fans are equally astounded and sceptical about what Gunn is preparing to do, though many are hoping that at least we'll get some fun new versions of the Daily Planet supporting cast. Among those is one character in particular that has historically had a rough ride in live-action: Jimmy Olsen.

Olsen was a key figure in Superman comics for years, often finding himself having to marry a gorilla, become a giant turtle man, and find strangely frequent excuses to cross-dress. At the start of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he's made a bizarre appearance.

Fans have mentioned that Michael appeared briefly in Superman Returns, but we want more:

Olsen also appeared in Smallville, although there was a strange twist:

We'd come out for a Jimmy Olsen film:

Jimmy: The Animated Series also had a fantastic Superman:

We can't help but agree that this core character in the Superman mythos needs a makeover. Perhaps Gunn might use the character's long history in DC Comics by putting him through some bizarre transformations and shocking plot developments, but either way, we'd just like to see him back on the big screen (without getting a bullet to the head).
