Season 2 of Gossip Girl: Is this the permanent cliffhanger?

Season 2 of Gossip Girl: Is this the permanent cliffhanger? ...

The Gossip Girl season 2 finale has officially arrived and gone on HBO Max and we're left to wonder what might have gone. Does it stink? A million times yes, since the program has been canceled and we're now left with a million different questions.

There was one thing that captivated us about the ending: Kate being taken down, yet, there was potential for Gossip Girl to become a global phenomenon, an application-of-sorts that might live on and terrorize people on a much larger scale.

Kate would have even returned for another season, given that her role was no longer required, according to TVLine. Based on executive producer Joshua Safran's comments to TVLine

"She would have certainly stayed in every episode, but would she have been back?" We certainly had a plan for Tavi [Gevinson], though. Kate was always going to be arrested someday, according to the producers. Back in Season 5, we had a one-year contract with Tavi, which we then extended. We knew the teachers would no longer be Gossip Girl by the end of Season 2.

The proposed season 3 might have been bigger on many different levels, so it's a shame that we'll not get to see it. Of course, there's at least some satisfaction in knowing that this show's title character is behind bars. That means that some characters may theoretically live with some degree of peace... even though most of them probably aren't capable of it due to some of their actions.

Why was Gossip Girl canceled from HBO Max, and is there any hope for it elsewhere?
