Maeda Toshiie is considered to be one of Evony's finest ground generals. He has a special ability that will improve ground attack and the HP of your troops. Unfortunately, he isn't a free-to-play general.
Once you max out Alfred the Great, he will be a highly-ranked ranged attack general. His many talents will increase your ranged troop formations greatly and give you siege bonuses.
Minamoto no Yoshitsune has the highest ranged HP and a great ranged attack for your troops once you have fully maxed out this general. His last specialty will give you a 46% of the General's ranged troop attack, which is impressive but requires you to pay a lot of money in-game.
Zachary Taylor is the only pure defense general we considered for the S-tier in Evony, who specializes in ranged defense. His special ability requires no training to be effective, and his special skill boosts In-city Ranged Troop Attack and HP significantly. His only drawback is that he isn't very versatile and should never be used in attacks.
Elise is one of Evony's best ground Defense generals, offering massive HP boosts for her ground troops. His special skill is always active and requires no development, making him an ideal general for this march type. Unfortunately, you will have to pay for an in-game top-up to get her five-star special skill HP boost of 30%.
