Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 hasn't been revealed in full yet, but it appears to be that the much-awaited Gunfight mode will be absent for a while longer.
Players of Activision's latest annual shooter – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – have been dissatisfied with several aspects of the game in the last few years.
Consumers are furious that Warzone 2, the free-to-play CoD battle royale, has received far more attention and news heading into Season 2 of the respective games.
The rumored news that Gunfight, a beloved mode from Modern Warfare 2019, will continue its exile from the Modern Warfare series for another season has only worsened matters.
Gunfight was one of the MW 2019 reboot's standout features, became a recurring gameplay mode and would form the basis of Warzone's Gulag encounters.
So it is no surprise that Modern Warfare 2 players are eager for Gunfight to come back. Gunfight existed in MW2, so it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the fan-favorite playlist option made its comeback.
Players who are awaiting the release of Gunfight for Season 2 are likely to be disappointed, according to CharlieIntel's findings.
Some players believe this is a somewhat questionable decision from the developers of Modern Warfare 2.
“That’s because they’ll wait until they need it most, maybe Season 3 or 4, to retain players. This is also why we likely won't get party modes (Infected, Gun Game, etc) for another couple seasons, according to one player.
XCalibur672, a Reddit user, made a heated comment, saying, "Every aspect of the monetization has ruined my capacity to play online multiplayer games by myself." So I'm increasingly only playing single-player games now, and I'm finding that much more beneficial."
It will be interesting to see how this will impact Modern Warfare 2 and the following weeks after.
The reaction from MW2 players may only increase following the Season 2 delay and Warzone 2's addition of a whole new Resurgence map.
