Insomniac Games has announced that they are working on a brand-new Wolverine game, which will bring the X-David villain to life in a new light. Here's all we know so far about Wolverine, including some speculation about the game's release date.
When Insomniac Games released its first Spider-Man title back in 2018, it was quickly regarded as one of the greatest superhero games of all time, competing with the popular Batman Arkham series.
The project followed the success of Spider-Man: Miles Morales two years later, and will develop a fully-fledged sequel later on in 2023. But another iconic Marvel hero will be given the AAA video game treatment — Wolverine.
From the initial story details to when Insomnic's Wolverine game will be released, here are all of the information we have so far about the game.

Is there a release date for Wolverine?
Although Insomniac Games first revealed Wolverine in 2021, there is still no official release date attached to the game. However, leaks and reports have given us an idea of when we'll finally be able to wear the iconic claws.
According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, the developers intend to drop the game in Fall 2024. However, internally, the suggestion is that it may be delayed until 2025.
Sadly, Wolverine is still a long way off, but we may see a more exact release date in the future.
Platforms built by Wolverine
Due to Insomniac's being a Sony first-party studio, Wolverine will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 - a bad news for Microsoft followers, as it means it will most likely not be available on Xbox platforms.
However, the original Spider-Man was released four years after his release, so Steam users can rest assured that Wolverine will follow the same lead.
Details on the Wolverine tale
The Wolverine game's developers haven't provided too many details, but Jeff Grubb said that the game will focus on Logan before he suits up and joins the X-Men.
The insider claimed that the Giant Bomb team "wants it to stand on its own," rather than focusing on how to incorporate the likes of Proffessor-X or Jean Gray.
However, it remains to be seen how early in Logan's life the game will take place, if we start the story with the classic adamantium claws, or if the bonding process will make up one of the early missions.
Details on the Wolverine gameplay
Although Insider Gaming claims that the Wolverine game will have a "God of War-like semi-open, wide-linear design," little is known about its gameplay. This implies that the story could take players through vast open spaces that can be fully explored.
If all of the rumors are true, Grubb added that Wolverine would have a "M for Mature" rating, so that more deadly gameplay features like "dismemberment" can be shown.
The trailer for Wolverine has been released.
So far, there has been only one trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, presented at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021. While it did not reveal any gameplay, it does give some indications about the game's overall tone.
