Destiny 2: Lightfalls' new raid will be longer than ever before in its contest mode

Destiny 2: Lightfalls' new raid will be longer than ever before in its contest mode ...

A change to the always-controversial Contest Mode has been implemented ahead of the release of the next raid in Destiny 2: Lightfall next month.

As had been the case with previous previous new raids, the enhanced difficulty variant will now last 48 hours instead of 24 hours. This will give more teams more time to finish the raid and earn the exclusive Contest Mode emblem, which can only be acquired by finishing every raid encounter while the mode is active.

“We are expanding the contest period an additional day to allow teams that follow the emblem more time to take breaks, as well as allow anyone who has commitments on Friday to have time to participate,” Bungie said, adding that further information on the change will be available in a future This Week blog post.

The reaction to the news has been mostly positive, with some outliers decrying the fact that Contest Mode is supposed to be challenging and therefore should continue to be a 24-hour achievement. Bungie is clearly opposed to this.

Contest Mode will begin at raid launch and conclude at 12pm CT on Sunday, March 12, rather than the same time on Saturday, March 11, as previously assumed. This gives players ample time to think about their plans ahead of raid weekend.

Destiny 2: Lightfall will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on February 28. The next raid will begin the following Friday, March 10.
