I Know What You Did Last Summer When the Director of Do Revenge Was Developing ...

As reported by Deadline, a sequel to the '90s slasher film 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' is in the works at Sony Pictures.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, best known for the Netflix teen film "Do Revenge," is said to be in talks to direct the sequel to the original 1997 film. Both actors were involved in the film, and Deadline reports that Leah McKendrick will direct the script, while original film producer Neal H. Moritz is in discussions to return.

IndieWire was told by an individual who had knowledge that the project is still in its early stages, and that agreements with actors have yet to be finalized.

"I Know What You Did Last Summer," based loosely on the 1973 Lois Duncan book, starred Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe as a group of four friends who get into an accident and dispose the body of their victim, only to be hunted a year later by a mysterious hook-wielding killer who claims to know their secret. In 2021, Prime Video will reboot and produce a second film that includes Hewitt and Prinze.

Robinson, who has worked on HBO Max's "Unpregnant," previously worked with Gellar, one of the original cast members of "I Know What You Did Last Summer," who was a major influence on "Do Revenge."

Robinson said of IndieWire: "I just feel like the films I grew up with in the 1990s and early 2000s just don't get produced anymore."

Robinson is repped by CAA and Gotham Group. McKendrick is repped by UTA, Kaplan Perrone, and VanderKloot Law. Love Hewitt is repped by Gersh and Vault Entertainment. Prinze Jr. is repped by Brillstein Entertainment.
