While exploring Sumeru's desert region, Genshin Impact employs chess pieces as common themes. All five pieces can be combined to unlock a World Quest called Apocalypse Lost as well as a gigantic chessboard puzzle.

While completing the quest sequence The Dirge of Bilqis and the follow-up quest series Tadhla the Falcon, all of these Chess Pieces may be collected from Exquisite Chests. Make sure your inventory is already full.

Genshin Impact on all 5 Chess Piece locations in the Sumeru Desert

To get to this Chess Piece, go to Safhe Shatranj's chess board and go north to find a triangle-shaped passage. Enter and follow the path forward until you reach the edge of a cliff.

Gliding to the left of the edge of the cliff, you will come directly to Liloupar's Cell.

At the foot of the tree, you'll find an Exquisite Chest. Loot it to get the Chess Piece called King Deshret's Pillar.

To have access to this Chess Piece, complete Dune-Entombed Fecundity: Part I, start at the underground Teleport Waypoint near Mt. Damavand's entrance, shown above. Enter the ruin from the entrance.

Once you've entered the ruin, follow the path forward and enter the cave behind the obelisk. Glide downward and turn left to enter another area.

Along the mechanism, you'll notice an Exquisite Chest. Loot it to get the Chess Piece called Border Fort.

To access this Chess Piece, which is located in the underground area called Bayt Al-Sukr, you must complete the Dune-Entombed Fecundity: Part II. Head west of The Sands of Three Canals to the underground Teleport Waypoint. You'll notice a large pathway up ahead.

Enter the exit to see the Exquisite Chest waiting for you. Loot it to get the Chess Piece called Soulferry.

To have access to this Chess Piece, you must complete the Dune-Entombed Fecundity: Part III. Head west of the Wounded Shin Valley to the underground Teleport Waypoint. Use the Four-Leaf Sigils to reach the other side of the terrain, where you'll find an enclosed ruin.

Once inside, you'll immediately notice the Exquisite Chest at the center of the clearing. Loot it to get the Chess Piece called Khaj-Nisut.

Wait one day or until the server resets to unlock a new quest series, starting with Tadhla the Falcon. Completing it will unlock the next quest called "The Falcon's Hunt."

Follow the World Quest until you get Liloupar's fragment, then loot the Exquisite Chest nearby before returning to Masseira. This will reward you with the Chess Piece called Temple of Gurabad. Click the link above for a complete walkthrough of the Chest's exact location.
