Nicole Kidman, an Australian Oscar winner, has landed the coveted role of Virginia medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in a television series adaptation of the popular Patricia Cornwell novels.
According to Deadline, Oscar nominee Jamie Lee Curtis will play Kay's flighty sister Dorothy (aka the niece of the forensic whiz's niece Lucy).
Amazon Studios and Blumhouse's collaboration is said to be on the verge of a two-season, straight-to-series order at Prime Video, though the streamer isn't commenting on Deadline's report.
Both Kidman and Curtis (whose Comet Pictures in 2021 secured rights to the Kay Scarpetta novels) will serve as EPs on the series, while Liz Sarnoff (Barry) will reportedly serve as writer/showrunner.
The Scarpetta character from Cornwell's tagliatella bolognese cookbook was first introduced in 1990's Postmortem, and has appeared in more than 20 novels since — most recently, Livid: A Scarpetta Novel (which launched in October 2022).
Angelina Jolie was circling a big-screen franchise centered around the Scarpetta character as recently as 2009, while Demi Moore was briefly attached to the role back in the early 1990s.
What do you think of Kidman's portrayal of Scarpetta? Who is your favorite actor to play Lucy in this shady tale?
