What Are the Unforgivable Curses in the Hogwarts Legacy?

Crucio, Imperio, and Avada Kedavra are three unforgivable curses in Hogwarts Legacy. As fans will know, each one has a devastating impact on those who are lucky enough to be on the receiving end, and Hogwarts students are usually warned not to use them under any circumstances.

Below, you can see each Curse and its effect:

  • Crucio (Cruciatus Curse) – Known as the ‘Torture Curse,’ it inflicts excruciating pain on any living thing.
  • Imperio (Imperius Curse) – Places the enemy under your control.
  • Avada Kedavra (Killing Curse) – Instantly causes a quick and painless death

Once unlocked, these deadly spells can become extremely powerful tools in your magical arsenal, so let's go over how to learn each one.

Crucio's Role in Hogwarts Legacy

Sebastian Swallow's long list of side missions rewards each Unforgivable Curse, and the Crucio Curse may be unlocked by finishing the 'In the Shadow of the Study' quest. The quest may be completed at any time.

This specific side activity takes you to Slytherin's Scriptorium, where you will be introduced to a door that can only be opened with an Unforgivable Curse. You will be taught how to cast the spell here, and Crucio will be permanently added to your abilities.

In Hogwarts Legacy, how do you get Imperio?

Players must complete the 'In the Shadow of Time' mission earlier in Sebastian's quest line in order to master the Imperio Curse. Simply continue progressing through the main story, and you will receive an owl.

This time, the Slytherin student takes you on a quest for an old relic before being confronted by Omnis Gaunt. During this exchange, you will learn Imperio, meaning you will have mastered two of the three Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy.

In Hogwarts Legacy, how do I get Avada Kedavra?

Avada Kedavra, the final Unforgivable Curse, is awarded for completing the 'In the Shadow of the Relic' quest. Players may only access this mission once they have reached level 27 by completing certain sections of the campaign or grinding side objectives.

Sebastian will direct the killing curse right in front of you and offer to instruct it. Follow his example and you'll be able to defeat Voldemort.
