Marvel Snap just released a new version, bringing some anticipated tweaks to two of the game's most powerful cards, and Second Dinner was revealed on the game's official Discord server.
Silver Surfer and Zabu have just received some significant changes, and they're already live in the game. These changes are expected to have an impact on some of the meta's most popular and strongest decks.
Second Dinner predicted that balance updates would be largely relegated to patches in the future. However, today's update is described as "over the air," meaning there won't be an update for players to download.
Second Dinner said, "For the time being, we believe patches to be the primary approach to delivering balance adjustments." "We'll often want to make more significant modifications than this tool allows," said the company. Nonetheless, we may experiment with slightly more frequent balance on a small scale to see if there's an even better experience for players at our fingertips."
Here are all of the changes to the two cards that have been affected by today's Marvel Snap update.
Marvel's Snap Zabu nerf
- Previous: 3 Energy, 2 Power – Ongoing: Your 4-Cost cards cost 2 less. (minimum 1)
- New: 2 Energy, 2 Power – Ongoing: Your 4-Cost cards cost 1 less. (minimum 1)
Second Dinner spoke up about the change, saying, "Zabu's individual card performance was okay, but not outstanding." "Zabu's dominance became apparent only after we evaluated its clusters, which is data that takes longer to discover."
Second Dinner said that changing Zabu's cost reduction will make it "harder" to hide game-winning powers until turn 6 or empty your hand for Dracula," and also that the devastating Spider-Man/Absorbing Man combo would be "a bit different."
The Marvel Snap Silver Surfer nerf
- Previous: 3 Energy, 0 Power – On Reveal: Give your other 3-Cost cards +3 Power.
- New: 3 Energy, 2 Power – On Reveal: Give your other 3-Cost cards +2 Power.
"Sera Surfer"'s rise is oddly linked to Zabu's, according to Second Dinner. "It's been a top five card in a top five deck since its release, but steadied and gained cubes slower as players adapted..." Up until Zabu. During Savage Lands, "Sera Surfer" was an unlikely hero and the best overall deck. However, it also had positive matchups against over 75 percent of the field, which meant it threatened to become too
The intention of this change is to keep Surfer decks "viable," but less weaker." The addition of two power to a card that has always had zero "makes figuring out where he'll be played more interesting for both players and allows us to fine-tune his strength."
