After his Twitch and Discord moderator shared screengrabs of controversial conversations fans had with him in a long document, Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari in Genshin Impact, is accused of emotional abuse and sexual misconduct.
Gindi has since issued an apology. "I am profoundly sorry to those I hurt," he wrote on Twitlonger. "I understand that my actions have consequences, and am committing myself to accepting my responsibility while making the effort to do better."
Chris Faiella, the English voice director for Genshin Impact, spoke out on Twitter, saying he was dissatisfied with the situation and expressed his support to "anyone who has been victimized by this unacceptable and inappropriate behavior." He added that he was attempting to "redress this situation" by educating developer MiHoYo about the issue.
Zach Aguilar, the male English voice actor for Traveler, has also promised to phase out his collaboration with Gindi. "I refuse to give anyone like this a platform in any way," he wrote.
Sarah Miller-Crews, the female voice actor for Traveler, responded in the same manner as Yoimiya, Layla, Alhaitham, Beidou, Yun Jin, and others.
"Tighnari's english voice needs to be recasted, and Elliot must be held accountable," popular Genshin Impact streamer Zy0x said.
Fans of Genshin Impact on Reddit have since expressed their gratitude for the prompt response from the voice actors, stating that their support for the victims is heartbreaking.
Gindi is accused of emotional maltreatment, sexism, transphobia, and sexual misconduct toward minors. Alleged victims claim he was using his fame to foment inappropriate behavior.
Tighnari, who plays Genshin Impact, isn't sure whether Gindi will continue to voice act for the film in the future.
HoYoverse issued an update to Dot Esports on February 9th at 10am CT: "We deeply regret the harm and suffering suffered by our fans, gamers, and anyone who was affected. Both our internal teams and external partners, including our voice acting studio, have been working together on an immediate solution. We will keep you updated on the progress."
