Following reports, Amazon has ordered a live-action adaptation of Wytches, a lesser-known comic series, to further develop them into big streaming originals.
Image Comics produced the Scott Snyder comic series from 2014 to 2015, receiving praise for Snyder's superb penmanship and artist Jock. Wytches follows a family's journey into the wilderness following a tragedy, only to discover an ancient quarry of monsters nesting within the forest.
Following almost a decade of speculation about getting the adaptation off the ground in 2021, Amazon has finally ordered it into production. The last update before this came when Snyder promised that Plan B Entertainment would produce the series with Amazon.
Sometimes there'll be a surprise comic miniseries hit that gets picked up for adaptation, only to wander off into development hell for years. Wytches ran for only six issues, making it a perfect length for a limited series on streaming. Jock's art style is particularly appealing, providing great color for details in an otherwise dark environment.
Jock and Snyder will assist Wytches in transforming the show to its best.
Amazon has made huge strides in recent years to adapt comics that are beyond the control of Marvel or DC, as reported last week of it acquiring the rights to Ed Brubaker's independent film Criminal.
