In the United States, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might face court over slander. Samatha Markle, Markle's half-sister, is suing the former senior royals, alleging that she was "humiliated" and Meghan "misrepresented" her relationship during her 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview.
Samantha is seeking $75,000 in damages after the Dutchess of Sussex accused her of exposed her to "humiliation, shame, and hatred on a worldwide scale," and claimed that Meghan misrepresented their relationship by implying that she and her father were "virtual strangers."
Samantha argued that she and Meghan had a close connection and that they were in "regular contact" with each other. She also claimed that her father paid for Meghan's expenses to become an actress on several occasions.
The legal team for Harry and Meghan commented on the legal documents, claiming that Samatha's arguments are "vague and ambiguous" and that it is "not relevant to any party's claim or defense." Meghan's lawyers also claimed that her remarks about being "an only child" aren't defamatory and that some of the allegations made in the court document are "not relevant to the party's claim or defense."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be questioned in court if the case continues.
