Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is shaping up to be the greatest oxymoron in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The encounter with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) will likely be the first time he faces the miniature superhero.
Why does Kang miss his role as a player in Quantumania? Scott replies, referring to Thor. “You are not the one with the hammer,” he asks Scott, referring to the Avengers.
The answer may be as simple as it is absurd, or tiny as it is large: all of the other times Kang has encountered an Avenger – Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, etc. – he never saw Scott, because Scott might never have left his ant-sized appearance, opting instead to fight out of Kang's line of sight, eventually ending up squished under his brutal heel.
This is of note because it underscores Kang's importance in the quantum realm now. He hasn't fought him before, hasn't witnessed his weaknesses or weaknesses. This lack of knowledge might prove to be the chink in Kang's armor, his unavoidable Achilles heel.
“You are an interesting guy, Scott Lang,” Kang declares as the thin film of blue armor covering his face retracts. At the end of the film, we have a feeling he will be singing a different tune.
We all know Kang is a key player in the Multiverse Saga, but all of this speculation about Scott killing Scott seems to have completely eclipsed the notion that Scott might kill Kang. What is so remarkable about this phase five film that Kevin Feige chose the world's tiny superhero to solo against the multiverse's greatest threat? There's only one way to find out.
Quantumania, Ant-Man and the Wasp, will be released on February 17 in theaters.
