Tears of the Kingdom: Breakdown and Theories for Legend of Zelda

Tears of the Kingdom: Breakdown and Theories for Legend of Zelda ...

Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated games of 2023. Fans are enthralled by any announcement or reveal. Fortunately, we got a lengthy teaser during the Nintendo Direct on February 2023 on the Nintendo YouTube channel. It also showed a look at the Collector's Edition of Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a darker and more mechanical feel. This is apparent in the music and design of the new elements. Any spoilers should be noted in this video.

At the start of the video, we hear a mysterious and evil voice that sounds like Matt Mercer talking about the destruction of Hyrule. If not Ganondorf, it might be Demise or Astor, but Ganondorf seems to be the big bad of Tears of the King. These creatures may have liberated Ganondorf, and he is here to take revenge.

At the 29-second mark, we see what appears to be Hyrule Castle still afflicted by the Calamity. This could mean that while Ganondorf was defeated in Breath of the Wild, he remained trapped under Hyrule Castle and is now retraining to his previous methods. These are also forms of destruction and enslavement to all in Hyrule. The Blood Moon is also appearing to be returning, possibly even more dangerous than ever before.

Enemies

Bokoblin, Lizalfos, Moblins, and Hinox are all returning enemies. What stood out was a new flying adversary that appeared to be capable of carrying other enemies. The former had a glowing blue crystal while the latter appeared to be a smaller version of the Hinox.

A three-headed hydra with burning heads might be a new form of Guardians' mechanical snake-like appendages.

New Mounts/Vehicles

The Master Cycle Zero is a new mechanical mount that usually links a horse, but other things we noticed were that many of the new Rune Abilities and mounts have the same green energy, potentially tying them together.

New Rune Abilities

We also noticed some new Rune abilities. The Sheikah Slate isn't seen on Link's belt, but these abilities appear to function similarly. We know Link can maneuver large objects, but we didn't notice any new abilities until we inspected them.

New Weapons

Link is also sporting a new weapon. We noticed a large glowing rod that appears to throw explosive bombs. We also noticed a potential new arrow type that can recognize enemies and strike them even if you miss them.

Death of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda is frequently captured or trapped in the game, but Nintendo has gone a step further. The first shot shows Zelda bathed in golden light and seen Link reaching out to save her. During this, she narrates, asking for power (we assume Hylia) to give Link strength. It may be a final prayer before she dies.

Link's reaction to this new mechanical arm after suffering some significant damage is supported by what appears to be her. The most probable explanation for this is that Ganondorf was awaken and released, which caused Link and/or Zelda to suffer a mortal injury. Zelda may have survived, but she may have used her remaining strength to rescue Link.

The Legend of Zelda is not afraid to explore dark themes. Majora's Mask is an excellent example of this, since Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel to Breath of the Wild. This is because Hyrule's death would fit very nicely with this dark theme.

Other Information

The teaser for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was packed with information and surprises. We saw various structures of different sizes and verticality, as well as what appeared to be the Divine Beast Vah Medoh on the ground. Although none of this has been confirmed, we cannot wait to see what additional features Tears of the Kingdom provides.
