Bungie claims the creator of Destiny 2's cheat must pay $12 million in damages ...

Bungie has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a Destiny 2 cheat maker for allegedly creating and selling various FPS cheats for the online game, including statutory damages and covering Bungie's own legal expenses, dating back to August 2021. The motion, filed on behalf of Bungie, comes ahead of the entire Destiny 2 Lightfall release date.

Bungie and its legal team have filed a lawsuit against Mihai Claudiu-Florentin, who reportedly operated the site VentureCheats. Bungie claims that Claudiu-Florentin's sale of Destiny 2 cheats "caused concrete and irreparable damage to Bungie and the Destiny 2 community," and is now seeking approximately $12 million in damages.

"The award Bungie seeks in this case is substantial because Claudiu-Florentin's blatantly unlawful conduct caused Bungie substantial harm under several applicable laws," according to the motion filed by Bungie's lawyers.

"Although Bungie is unable to precisely quantify the extent of the damage, it has spent more than $2 million on cheat mitigation (including staffing and software) since November 2020, when Claudiu-Florentin made the first transaction involving a Destiny 2 cheat."

Bungie and its legal team mention 5,848 instances of VentureCheats cheating being used in Destiny 2, but this number may not be accurate, according to the motion. "The 5,848 figure does not include the thousands of acts of circumvention committed by Claudiu-Florentin's customers every time they loaded the cheats and used them to play Destiny 2 for nearly two years," the motion states.

Bungie releases the Destiny 2 Strand teaser, highlighting the new subclass ahead of the full Destiny 2 Lightfall expansion's release.

“Under these circumstances, an award of $11,696,000 in statutory damages is perfectly appropriate.”

Bungie is also seeking a "permanent injunction" against Claudiu-Florentin, which prohibits the defendant from "developing, marketing, distributing, trafficking in, or otherwise profiting from cheat software targeting Destiny 2 or other Bungie games.
