According to Insider Gaming, Call of Duty 2023 will be developed by Sledgehammer Games. This follows previous reports that the 2023 release would be a "premium DLC" for Modern Warfare 2.
Activision has changed its mind and instead opted for a brand new standalone release for this year.
While the title of the next game has yet to be revealed, important dates for Activision's first-person shooter have been leaked.

The MW2 paid extension has been canceled.
The Call of Duty expansion in 2023 was originally planned to be an MW2 paid expansion. This $70 DLC was expected to contain a ton of old-school Call of Duty maps.
Although there was little information about the campaign additions, it was expected that this expansion would enhance the game's campaign as well.
Activision disclosed that work on the next premium release of the Call of Duty franchise was underway. Most recently, in their fourth quarter and yearly financial reports, the company disclosed that work was underway on the next premium release of the Call of Duty franchise.
Although, this was initially intended to be a reference to the expansion.
While the publisher initially intended the paid expansion, they have decided to change their mind. Call of Duty 2023 will now be its own fully-fledged game, distinct from Modern Warfare 2.
The next CoD game, despite Activision's MW2 expansion, is reportedly still set in the Modern Warfare world.
Due to this information, the leaker believes Call of Duty 2023 should be titled "Modern Warfare 3".
This would make sense, since the original Modern Warfare 3 was developed in 2011.
Fans should wait to see what the next game will bring, rather than enjoy all of the new content for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.
