While Joe — sorry, Jonathan — investigates his new acquaintances in the hopes of uncovering this season's mystery killer, he stumbles upon something even stranger: Phoebe's boyfriend Adam (Lukas Gage) is into water sports! We're not talking about the kinds you see at the Olympics, though.
“I don't remember what the outline of [the act] was, but it wasn't made in stone,” showrunner Sera Gamble says of TVLine. “This is only salacious because it's a secret. It's more that Adam is living a double existence. That's the important part.
Gamble's next move was to call Gage, because, as she rightly points out, "That's his face in that close-up. I wanted to have a candid conversation with the actor before we swore it into stone."
Gage was happy to oblige, revealing to TVLine that the entire process was quite technical.
“It's just a water bottle that has been tinted yellow with food coloring,” he adds of the specific mechanics. “It's very secure and it's talked about with an intimacy coordinator, and I had a wonderful crew and cast supporting me along the way.”
Gage is no stranger to on-screen sexual henanigans. If you saw the first season of The White Lotus, you will recall a certain confrontation with Murray Bartlett.
“We’re developing more authenticity and honesty with TV characters,” Gage adds. “For others, that means exploring their sexuality and their personal lives — and showing a little more. I don’t know, my agents are just throwing me in these weird situations.”
