Fans of classic Pokemon games are wondering if there will be Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games added to the Nintendo Switch Online catalog.

Nintendo has revealed that over a dozen Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles are already available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, so fans are naturally wondering if there are Pokemon titles ready to play.

The popular Pokemon franchise made its debut in Nintendo's portable system, and its games are considered to be the finest experiences in each platform's catalog this week. Here's how to get your hands on classic Pokemon games on Nintendo Switch Online.

Can you play classic Pokemon games on Nintendo Switch Online?

No, you can't currently play traditional Pokemon games on Nintendo Switch Online, according to the short and disappointing answer.

NSO subscribers have access to nine Game Boy titles, including titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, Metroid 2 – Return of Samus, and Kirby's Dream Land.

During Wednesday's Nintendo Direct, the company announced that the Pokemon Trading Card Game would be released at a later date.

The Game Boy Advance catalog includes Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, but there is no sign of any Pokemon adventures.

Classic Pokemon games will be added to Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions as well. The Pokemon Company will have a great opportunity to make an official announcement on February 27, also known as Pokemon Day.

Fans are holding their breath as the only way to get Pokemon Red or Pokemon Gold is through the Nintendo 3DS eShop, which will cease to exist on March 27.
