The Nintendo Switch is now on sale for the seventh year in a row, but the notion of a price decrease seems to be unheard of at this time, according to a recent financial results briefing from the company.
When asked about pricing strategies, Eurogamer's CEO said: "We have tried to preserve the value and prices of both hardware and software as much as possible." We do not believe that policy needs to be changed at this stage.
This seems reasonable given the frequency with which Nintendo games are sold. We've seen it for years that the company's intention is to "preserve the value" of hardware and software rather than devalue its products.
Furukawa described the elderly Switch's next life cycle as "uncharted territory." "We believe that the Nintendo video game platform business is entering uncharted territory."
"In this environment, it will be difficult to maintain hardware sales at the same level as before." For this reason, our new challenge for the seventh year is to find strategies to encourage users who are considering new purchases, replacement purchases, and additional purchases to purchase a Nintendo Switch."
Nintendo's future plans aren't revealed there, but without a Nintendo Switch price drop, it appears the company believes it has only a few years left. For more, check out the latest Nintendo Direct roundup from February 2023.
