Sam is bitten and bitten by an infected insect during an episode five of HBO's The Last of Us program. He stays up the entire night, hoping that he will be fine in the morning, but by the time Ellie wakes up, he has already turned. Henry grabs a pistol and shoots him to save her.
While there are some differences between the characters in the game, the way he is treated during the later stages of his presence on the show is generally the same. While he is deaf and has a conversation with Ellie in the writing, it is mostly the same, except it is spoken. When Ellie checks on him in the morning, he attacks her and Henry shoots him.
Anyone who has not seen The Last of Us before probably assumed that Henry and Sam would stay with Joel and Ellie for the long term. Unfortunately, anyone who played the game had a fairly good idea of how this relationship would end. Henry and Sam are fantastic actors both in the show and the game, and it is wonderful to see their story unfold so beautifully on screen.
