If you were hoping to get a glimpse into the world of Avenue 5, here's your opportunity.
According to a report coming in right now from TVLine, HBO has decided not to continue the series, despite it coming from Veep executive producer Armando Iannucci. Here is what they said in a statement:
"Toying to space with Armando Iannucci has been an incredible adventure... While we will not be moving forward with a third season of Avenue 5, we look forward to many more adventures together."
With this program, in some ways, the writing was on the wall, really since the announcement that Hugh Laurie would join the upcoming season of Tehran. However, HBO Max is becoming increasingly content-trimming due to both high competition and the Warner Bros. Discovery agreement.
It's a shambles that Avenue 5 has been ended, largely because this program had a distinctive style and tone that would not be easily replaced later on. However, we can't just assume that the right thing will emerge at some point. It all comes down to the best idea and the right time to collaborate.
The rest of the cast will join Laurie (who has shown a wonderful ability to combine comedy and drama) with a few other new roles in the near future. That's one of the hardest things about seeing a show close.
