The entire entertainment industry was ravaged beyond recognition by the outbreak of the epidemic, with so many top-tier films being buried, lost, forgotten, or abandoned as a result. One of the biggest casualties – at least if we're talking about sheer quality – was director Michael Matthews' Love and Monsters.
The whimsical creature feature, which was scheduled to be released on Netflix in March of 2020 – also known as the month when the entire world came to a halt – was pushed back a month, then to February of 2021, before finally becoming available on VOD in October 2020, while international customers had to wait for even longer until Netflix obtained the overseas distribution rights.
Love and Monsters had the potential to be a major box office hit, one that might even lead to a lucrative franchise. Sadly, that wasn't the case, but the good news remains that the beloved film is still firmly on the verge of becoming a certifiable classic.
A first-time visitor posted on Reddit to express their complete displeasure for Love and Monsters, a sentiment that was repeated throughout the responses.
It deserved better, but longevity as an unmissable accomplishment in the apocalyptic arena will require a suitable compromise, and it's a completely legitimized moniker.
