The last chapter in James Gunn's MCU space trilogy will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and since Endgame opened the floodgates of casualty in the MCU and Phase Four continued that disturbing precedent by killing off multiple characters, a lot of fans are going into this threequel prepared to break their hearts into million pieces.
When Star-Lord and his gang of space misfits release their final scenes in Vol. 3, they are able to declare their end. However, as all good things must come to an end, Peter Quill, Rocket, Drax, Nebula, Gamora, Mantis, and Groot will face their greatest challenge in a decisive third act when the film opens on May 3.
The official GotG Vol. 3 synopsis suggests that the story will revolve around Rocket for a change, with the rest of the Guardians embarking on a quest to save their co-captain's life. Peter must also rectify things with Gamora, who came to this timeline from 2014.
The Guardians franchise is unlikely to make a comeback on the big screens once director James Gunn has his hands full with the DCU and all of the future projects that will be part of his lineup in the near future, at least not in the near future. However, we still have plenty of team-up films to look forward to, such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Nevertheless, it may be prudent to anticipate a bittersweet conclusion, if not exactly a tragic one.
