When will the new Overwatch 2 hero be released? ...

Many of the original Overwatchs procedures are gone, and hero releases are no exception. As part of Overwatch 2's new seasonal approach, players will still receive one hero per season. But those who don't receive the premium battle pass will have to go to level 55 of the free battle pass to unlock them.

While this system has proved to be conflicting in the community, it makes new hero launches much easier to anticipate. Instead of being revealed after a series of teasers from the development team, we now know when to expect new faces in Overwatch 2.

Here's all we know about the next Overwatch 2 heros release date.

New hero: Sojourn

Sojourn was the first new Overwatch 2 hero. She participated in the games' first PvP beta and has seamlessly integrated into the games' roster. She will be available for free for all players when Overwatch 2 launches in early access on October 4; she will not be part of the first seasons battle pass.

Sojourn is a damage hero who specializes in blocking targets with her relatively simple abilities, making her a great all-around hero in the vein of Soldier: 76, with just enough skill ceiling to justify taking the time to perfect her abilities.

On October 4, Sojourn will arrive in Overwatch 2.

New hero: Junker Queen

Junker Queen is a tank hero who was revealed in the animated short The Wastelander just before the second PvP beta of Overwatch 2. Her inclusion was a major event because she highlighted the game's new five-vs-five multiplayer system. Instead of allowing two players of all three roles to play together, Overwatch 2 will only allow one tank per team.

Junker Queen is known for area denial and building combos that have the Wound abilities that many of her attacks have. She will also be available for all players for free when Overwatch 2 launches, meaning she will not be included in the first seasons battle pass.

Junker Queen will be released in Overwatch 2 on October 4.

New hero: Kiriko

Kiriko is the hero behind the mysterious fox spirit that was first shown in an earlier trailer for Overwatch 2's PvP. We didn't know anything specific about Kiriko until the Tokyo Game Show, where a brief battle animation showcasing her abilities was revealed.

Kiriko is a support with a high skill ceiling and high damage potential. Like Zenyatta, her abilities reward precise timing and aim. Unlike Sojourn and Junker Queen, she will not be available to all players at launch until October 4. Those who owned the original Overwatch will receive her for free when the game launches.

On October 4, Kiriko will arrive in Overwatch 2 at the same time.

What about the next hero?

Blizzard will release one hero in alternating seasons, with the off seasons introducing a new map. As of this writing, nothing is known. Some say it might be Mauga, a character from Baptistes' origin story, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
