Will the experience and development from the Modern Warfare 2 beta continue? ...

Today, the open beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 began, with early access to PlayStation players, before extending the game to all players across PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Battle.net.

The open beta provides access to several of the new six-vs-six gameplay modes, including Prisoner Rescue and Knockout, as well as classic modes like Team Deathmatch and Domination. Players may also see all of the new features, equipment, and field upgrades, and get a full overview of the game's progression and challenge systems.

When the MW2 beta begins, will the rewards and experience you gain from playing the game continue to play out in the full game?

Modern Warfare 2 beta progression explained

Players will be able to take part in the extensive progression system during the MW2 beta, which includes weapon and rank (player level) advancement. While ranks, experience, and weapon progression levels are not expected to carry over into the whole game, some of the rewards earned from reaching certain ranks will remain active throughout the Beta and the entire game, according to the official Call of Duty blog.

Players can rise to rank 15 by earning 87,500 XP during the first weekend. If they reach rank 15, they will unlock the Side Impact handgun weapon blueprint, which should continue to play throughout the entire game after launch.

The rank cap for the second weekend of the beta increases to 25. Players who reach rank 25 will receive the Frontal Impact assault rifle weapon blueprint, as well as some new cosmetics.

After the beta, the ranks themselves will likely be reset, as will the weapon levels earned during the beta.

Players may rise by satisfying daily challenges that fall into one of three categories:

  • General challenges that typically involve getting kills or winning matches.
  • Weapon challenges that typically involve getting kills with specific weapons.
  • Special challenges that typically involve using specific equipment or field upgrades.

Completing all three daily challenges will unlock an additional bonus challenge that will award triple the amount of XP as a normal daily challenge.
