Players have criticised the developers for using outdated maps and modes as the biggest changes following the release of the Modern Warafre 2 Season.
The update for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 2 will be released on February 15, and the developers have laid forth the scope of what's to come in the battle royale. The Ashika Island Resurgence map and 1v1 Gulags are among the new features and improvements.
Modern Warfare 2 players have criticized Infinity Ward for releasing "recycled" modes and maps rather than focusing on new experiences following the release of the Season 2 roadmap.
The majority of multiplayer content planned for the update is taken from or inspired by previous CoD games. For example, MW3's Dome is returning as a 6v6 map after making up the Zaya Obseratroy POI in Warzone 2, and Gun Game is being added as a new mode.
'x100Guy,' a Reddit user, shared a post titled "S2 in a Nutshell.." before renaming the game "Call for Money: Recycled Warfare."
Many other fans responded, chastising the developers for so heavily relying on classic features in its updates.
“With what they added, it doesn’t even look like they want our money anymore,” said one reply. “Just remaster older CoDs at this point.”
Players noted that the Ronin Operator was present in Modern Warfare 2019, and that Season 1 also included maps that had previously been included in CoD titles.
“Ronin [is] a recycled operator,” said one disgruntled fan. “All of this should have been present at launch, including the recycled season 1 'content,' like Shipment and Shoot House. This drip feed is real disrespect.”
Others said there hasn't been a "nine new map in four months" since Modern Warfare 2 was released, as the Valderas Museum was actually playable in the beta before being removed at launch.
"That's a 4 months, not including Season 2, which is three-ish months long," said another player. "I'm curious to see if we get one actual new map by the summer."
Modern Warfare 2's next major content drop will take place shortly after the Season 2 Reloaded update, which will bring additional brand-new content to the game in the coming months.
