The Premiere of DWTS Makes a Huge Change

The Premiere of DWTS Makes a Huge Change ...

On September 16, Dancing With the Stars and Disney Plus announced that they have made a significant format shift to the way the show operates, something that a regular-length season hasn't seen since 2006.

Lest you see any of the details and what this implies for the show, then read on:

During the Premiere, there will be an elimination.

Disney Plus announced that season 31 would feature a elimination at the end of the two-hour premiere in a press release on Friday, September 16.

The press release says:

Fans may vote during the live stream of the show in the United States and Canada via disneyplus.com/vote. This season, live online voting will be available in Canada. The judges' scores will be combined with the viewers' votes to determine which couples are in danger of elimination.

At the end of the premiere episode, one couple will be eliminated.

Kenny Mayne and Andrea Hale were eliminated on premiere night during season two; instead, the show would either wait a week to send someone home during the results show or the next night (or on night three if there were two nights of performances) when the competition was over. During a normal season, this hasnt occurred since 2006.

What does this mean for the schedule? Because we already know the finale will be held on Monday, November 21, it implies there will be at least two double eliminations along the way in order to have four couples dancing on the finale night.

Despite the fact that the producers chose to eliminate one couple on the first night, one of the benefits of the move to Disney Plus is that the entire country can watch it live and vote, as well as Canadian residents.
