Hampton vs Norfolk State Preview
The Hampton Pirates and the Norfolk State Spartans have played their rivalry games since 1963. The Spartans are the best team in the series at 29-26-1.
Dawson Odums, the head coach of Norfolk State, said in his pre-season press conference that his sophomore year as head coach is going well now that he has had a full season to get his system running with the program.
Odums told Wavy.com that his culture has dramatically changed. I like the direction we're going. Discipline is the key to our process, and that's difficult to establish in a short period of time. I like the leadership of the guys we have at quarterback. We're not asking them to be heroes, just take what the defense gives you and move the ball down the field.
Hampton head coach Robert Prunty explained the fact that the club has three quarterbacks, all of whom played last week against Tuskegee. Pretty soon, one of them will have to stand up and separate himself from the other two.
Prunty (via Yahoo Sports) says it's gonna be this way again Monday. We've always had nobody separate. Chris and Sofian havent played a lot neither.
Prunty said he told his team throughout the week that Tuskegee might be a trap game.
Prunty (via Yahoo Sports) said the Tigers threw everything at them. They blitzed like 80% of the time, so it was good for our quarterbacks to see all of this. A game like this could be a trap game, especially when you are playing a Division II team, because if you lose, it's like, man.
It's going to be a battle anytime Norfolk State and Hampton compete in any sport, according to the speaker. It's great for fans, universities, and alumni organizations.
ESPN Plus will broadcast the 2022 Battle of the Bay on Saturday, September 17 at 2 p.m. Eastern.
