The Cast and Writers of 'The Blackening' on Subverting Horror Tropes and Cracking Up on Set | TIFF 2 ...

The Blackening's cast and writing team brought the easy-going energy you get from funny people during filming, and they were interviewed by our own Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub, who congratulated the subversive comedy.

The Blackening is a comedy sketch from Comedy Central that ran back in 2018. The idea is simple: Seven friends decide to go away for the weekend and are surprised by the arrival of a killer. In the movie, the all-black cast has to apply their horror movie experience and street skills to survive this frantic encounter.

Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip) and Dewayne Perkins (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), who also plays the Black characters in the film, as well as cast members Antoinette Robertson (Dear White People) and X Mayo (American Auto) discussed how the entertainment industry has evolved in the last few years.

Grace Byers, Melvin Gregg, Yvonne Orji, Jay Pharoah, and Sinqua Walls star in The Blackening.
