The Disney Dreamlight Valley patch has resolved a quest that had me bogged down ...

The biggest issue with Disney Dreamlight Valley was the lack of Dream Shards, a resource so limited that many players, including me, were getting soft-locked out for days on end. However, gameloft claims it has addressed the issue by correcting other problematic bugs.

Dream Shards, a key resource, will now spawn more often as a reward for feeding animals, clearing thorns, and removing sparkling dirt.

Dreamlight Valley is an early access game, and there are technical issues that have recently hindered some of this enjoyment. From what Ive heard and read, the Xbox Game Pass version is in much better shape than the Nintendo Switch version, which is apparently constantly crashes or glitching out. I havent experienced technical glitches more often than once or twice in the 19 hours Ive played, which does not feel irregular to me.

Ive reached a quest line that locks all villagers inside their houses, except goddamn Kristoff, Merlin, and Rapunzels mother, and after 19 hours, I have none. You must clear thorns in order to obtain Dream Shards, so I grinded cooking and fishing to unlock a new area instead.

See above: My house is filled with steamed fish and fruit cups. (I couldnt sell anything either because everyone was locked in their houses, so I had to put everything back on the ground.)

After a few hours, I had enough Dreamlight points to unlock a new area with thorns. Unfortunately, these thorns gave me coins and seeds not a single Dream Shard. So I had to begin the process of grinding Dreamlight points again in hopes of one day finding five Dream Shards.

I got a job out of trawling the developer's Twitter account: Gameloft sent all players 25 Dream Shards to make up for the balance issues; my issues have now been resolved, and my town is free. So if you're having a problem with your mail, check your mailbox even though there's nothing in the game that shows it's there.

Dream Shards should not be an issue until this update, which Gameloft claims will be released in the next couple of hours. However, be aware that your mailbox is also collecting Dream Shards.

Gameloft had not mentioned whether or not its altered spawn rates for other items such as flowers and other foraged materials had been spawning slowly, but the Night Shard tweak will give a lot of players more freedom.
