Orlando Bloom, a former Lord of the Rings actor, has joined the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of Gran Turismo.

Bloom joins Stranger Things actor David Harbour in the film, which is being produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions and is set to be released next summer.

The film is based on the true story of a youngster who won a series of Nissan awards because to his gaming skills in Gran Turismo. This led him to becoming a professional race car driver.

The film will be released in theaters on August 11, 2023, and will be directed by Neil Blomkamp of District 9, while the script will be written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylan. Hall received an Oscar nomination for his adaptation of Bradley Cooper's American Sniper.

The first Gran Turismo video game was released in 1997 in Japan, and the series became a smash hit. Several new games were later developed for other PlayStation platforms, the most recent being Gran Turismo 7, which was released earlier this year on March 4.

Bloom made his name playing Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean series in recent years. A24's Wizards! is just one of a number of interesting projects on his recent and upcoming filmography.

Bloom will next appear in Season two of Amazon Prime Video's Carnival Row, which he oversees and stars in.

Gran Turismo will be released in cinemas on August 11, 2023. Amazon Prime Video is available.
