Montana State vs Oregon State Preview

In Montana State, the Oregon State Beavers (2-0) will face the FCS national runner-up from last season.

At Portland's Providence Park, where the Portland Timbers MLS team is located, the two will meet on neutral turf. It will be the first time Oregon State has played in Portland since 1986.

Playing in Portland is a bit different, but I'm excited to meet some Beaver fans who live up to that, and excited to participate in a cool venue, a soccer venue that I think will be great for a football game and the atmosphere, according to Oregon State's head coach Jonathan Smith via 247 Sports.

Oregon State Football (@BeaverFootball) is scheduled to air on September 17, 2022.

With its first 2-0 start since 2014, Oregon State enters the game in a unique position. The Beavers defeated Boise State 34-17 to open the season, then Fresno State 35-32.

Smith talked about Fresno State via 247 Sports. I believe they will win a lot of games. I thought the quarterback, on tape, and I saw it in person, there were some big-time throws in there. They can separate in man coverage. I think defensively, theyre athletic, can tackle well, and challenged us.

Montana State is excellent, too. The Bobcats defeated McNeese 40-17 and Morhead State 63-13 to open the season. MSU head coach Brent Vigen also has experience coaching in North Dakota State's FCS premiere program in the early 2010s.

On paper, the challenge is much greater and a lot of respect goes to Oregon State, according to Montana Sports Ashley Washburn. It's incredible what Coach [Jonathan] Smith has accomplished in his time there, returning to his hometown and raising their game.

Vigen said that the team will have its hands full. They have a lot of really good players and a lot of experience players on both sides of the football. We do too, as well.

Tommy Mellott, the Bobcats' quarterback, has had a good start to the season, with 447 yards and four touchdowns against no interceptions. Mellott led the Bobcats to the national championship game against NDSU last season.

Jack Colletto, a linebacker/running back for OSU, is capable of doing a lot of everything on both sides of the ball. He has an interception and forced fumble on defense in his career. On offense, he scored 19 touchdowns.

Vigen said via Montana Sports that they're being quite imaginative in how they use him. I'd imagine they've only shown part of what they're capable of.
