In the new Netflix series from "Silicon Valley" and "Dave," Ali Wong plays Steven Yeun.
Danny Cho, a sluggish contractor who meets Amy Lau, a self-made entrepreneur, is played by Yeun. After an altercation on the road, Danny and Amy's lives become intertwined as the haves and have nots.
Lee, the showrunner and executive producer of "Tuca & Bertie," is also executive producing through his company Universal Remote. "Beef" is directed by executive producer Jake Schreier and helmer Hikari, and is scheduled to make its world premiere in 2023 SXSW's Closing Night episodic selection.
"Beef" is a darkly funny and deeply moving series about a road rage incident between two strangers. Danny Cho, a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, goes head-to-head with Amy Lau, a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life. The more the stakes in their feud, the more their lives and relationships go.
The ensemble cast includes Maria Bello, Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, Ashley Park, Justin H. Min, Mia Serafino, and Remy Holt.
"Beef" is a comedy from A24, which will be available on Netflix on April 6.
"We're extremely excited to collaborate with Lee Sung Jin and help bring this rich series to life along with the inimitable Steven Yeun and Ali Wong," said Jinny Howe, Netflix's vice president of drama development and original series. "It is a honest and powerful character study of two individuals who go about seeking connection in the strangest of ways."
“I’m grateful to A24, Steven Yeun, and Netflix,” Lee said of his creator. “I’m also grateful to the guy who yelled at me in traffic three years ago. I refused to give up the idea,” Lee said.
Wong "did not hold back" as an actress and even broke out into hives after filming the season finale, according to Lee, who cited "The Sopranos" as his main influence on the series' tone.
