The Hogwarts experience is limited to classes and quidditch. Due to the school's proximity to magical forests, students will encounter various creatures they can tame in Hogwarts Legacy.
Once you have tame a creature, you may place them in a Vivarium, which has limited spots. At some point down the line, you'll run out of spots or hit the species limit, which will prevent you from adding more animals to your collection.
How do you increase the species limit in Hogwarts Legacy?
In Hogwarts Legacy, players are unable to increase the species limit. If you need additional storage space, you'll need to unlock additional Vivariums.
In Hogwarts Legacy, players may own a total of four Vivariums, each capable of housing 12 creatures from different species.
How to Get More Vivariums in Hogwarts
The only way to have a higher species limit and overall more space to house creatures in Hogwarts Legacy is to unlock Vivariums: The following side quests will be required for players to unlock the remaining three Vivariums:
- Swamp Vivarium
- Becomes available after completing the “Foal of the Dead” side quest.
- Grassland Meadow Vivarium
- Becomes available after completing the “Phoenix Rising” side quest.
- Coastal/Beach Vivarium
- Becomes available after completing “The Plight of the House-Elf” side quest.
- Becomes available after completing the “Foal of the Dead” side quest.

With four Vivariums, players reach the maximum species limit at the time of writing, but this may change in the future with DLCs.
Breeding is one of the game's main components, and if it does find its way to future Legacy stories, the developers may decide to add more slots for convenience.
