At launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 already has several solid options and a wide variety of weapons to choose from, with many more already added through seasonal content.
MW2 includes all of the classic assault rifle, submachine gun, and sniper rifle categories. However, there's also a class that's a bit of a hybrid somewhere between ARs and snipers, and it's called battle rifles.
Battle rifles are semi-automatic rifles that will fire as quickly as you can pull the trigger in MW2. Some of them have a burst fire mode, which allows you to fire in bursts of two or more, but you can't hold the trigger to trigger these guns. This is a problem when shooting down opponents with a battle rifle online because the full-auto mode is not compatible with a rifle designed for such a capability.
Here's how to get the FTAC Recon battle rifle in MW2.
In Modern Warfare 2, the best FTAC Recon loadout was
- Barrel: 419mm EXF Barrel
- Optic: Cronen Mini Red Dot
- Stock: Demo Precision Elite Factory
- Underbarrel: VX Pineapple Vert Grip
- Rear Grip: Support CP90 Grip
Secondary: Preferred pistolTactical: Stun GrenadeLethal: SemtexPerk Package: Battle Hardened and Double Time, Fast Hands, and GhostField Upgrade: Player choice
The FTAC Recon, which is currently one of the weakest battle rifle options in MW2, must be used to unlock the powerful FSS Hurricane, which is embedded in the M4 platform. Things may change in the future, but battle rifle players will likely have greater success with other guns.
The FTAC Recon isn't a useless rifle in medium-range shooting, but it's best when equipped with a loadout that will help keep its accuracy somewhat while using a close-range optic like the Cronen Mini Red Dot.
- Barrel: 419mm EXF Barrel
- Optic: AIM OP-V4
- Underbarrel: Phase-3 Grip
- Magazine: 15 Round Mag
- Rear Grip: Sakin ZX Grip
Secondary: Preferred pistolTactical: Stun GrenadeLethal: SemtexPerk Package: Battle Hardened and E.O.D., Fast Hands, and GhostField Upgrade: Player choice
With the AIM-OP V4 optic, this loadout allows you to deal more damage overall against more enemies at a time. This is a solid selection for larger maps in MW2.
