Around Hogwarts and its surrounding areas, there are a myriad of side quests to complete. Even if they aren't related to the main story, they can help you earn unique loot, solve special puzzles, and even learn new spells. Here's how you can accomplish this tricky quest and never worry about a lock again.
How to Finish Hogwarts Legacy's The Man Behind The Moons Quest
The quest will begin with Mr. Moon, the school's caretaker, who will send you a letter asking you to see him outside of the Grand Staircase. Here, he'll show you a Demiguise statue that holds a moon. You can also get the Moon by opening your map and pressing the right stick of your controller.
After this explanation, Mr. Moon will ask you to return two more statues to the Faculty Tower. This section is currently off-limits to students, and you'll need to unlock a gate to get inside.
After this, Mr. Moon will ask you to continue to search for Demiguise Statues near Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and other outer regions on the World Map. He promises to teach you higher levels of Alohomora as you learn the game.
In Hogwarts Legacy, how do I get nine Demiguise Moons?
The total number of Demiguise Moons is thirty, spread over three zones: Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the World Map. However, some Demiguise Moons are locked inside level two areas that you will not be able to access this time through.
The Demiguise statue may be seen by going down the Faculty Tower Floo and descending the spiral staircase to your right. Follow the hallway to the left of the hall, then enter a locked door that says "Out of Order." To your left, enter a boiler room with the Demiguise statue on the crate.
The Demiguise Moon will be required to go through the Restricted Section of the Library to the lower levels. Take the Library Floo Flame, then head toward the left corner where the gated area is. Continue climbing the steps to the bottom level, and you'll notice the Demiguise Moon just before the entrance to the lower dungeons.
The Demiguise Moon is tucked right under the Professor's desk in the right corner of the room.
Another simple Demiguise to locate is in Professor Fig's Office. Bring the Floo Flame to Professor Fig's Classroom, walk through the room, and up the stairs leading to the office. The Demiguise is sitting on a small side table just to the left of the fireplace.
Take the Floo to The Great Hall, and make your way into the main dining hall. Head toward the locked door just past the large Gardens doors. Put your level one Alohomora to the test by unlocking the door and going inside the small sitting room. The Demiguise Moon is sitting on the small table in front of the fireplace.
Take the Hogwarts North Exit Floo and turn around completely to face the castle once more. In the courtyard area, you'll see a tower to your left. Open it with Alohomora level one.
This classroom location isn't as well-known as the others, partly because it's hidden away in the castle's dungeons. It also contains another Demiguise statue. Continue forward and around the corner until you reach the dungeons. From there, turn right and go through the long hallway to find the Demiguise.
There are still a few more Hogwarts Demiguise Moons, but they will require a higher Alohomora skill. So, for the time being, you'll want to go to Hogsmeade to get your last two Demiguise for this portion of the quest. The quickest ones you can grab right now are located near The Three Broomsticks:
Three Broomsticks should be the building right in front of you, so go inside and ascend the steps all the way up to a locked door. Open the private room to find the Demiguise right in front of the fireplace.
Exit out of The Three Broomsticks and make a left. Follow the path around the corner of The Three Broomsticks, and you'll find the house just below the wooden staircase. First unlock it with Alohomora level one, then go inside and climb the stairs. The Demiguise will be on a table on the other side of the staircase.
After you have nine Demiguise Moons, go back to Mr. Moon right inside the Faculty Tower. He will teach you Alohomora level two once you give him the Moons. Then he'll send you off to collect thirteen more Moons in order to learn the final upgrade.
In Hogwarts Legacy, how do I collect thirteen Demiguise Moons?
You can get the rest of the Moons around Hogwarts castle and then return to Hogsmeade to collect more.
Take the Potions Classroom Floo Flame, enter through the door, but walk past the classroom entrance and follow the spiral staircase down to the lower levels. At the very end of the hallway here, you'll notice a level one locked door. This door will now be a level two Alohomora.
Professor Howin's Office hut will be visible on your right if you take the Beasts Classroom Floo Flame. Both doors to her office require a level two Alohomora. You can unlock both ones and enter. The Demiguise Moon will be visible on a dining table inside.
The Demiguise Moon is located in the Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower, but the easiest way to get there is to take the Floo to the Transfiguration Courtyard. Once there, immediately turn around and enter through the doors to the DADA Tower. Just off to your right is a locked door. Use Alohomora level two to unlock it and go inside to find the Demiguise Moon right in your face.
You may return to Hogsmeade to collect some more items once you have completed your Hogwarts castle Moons:
Take the North Hogsmeade Floo, and then turn left and follow the path to Gladrags Wizardwear. It will be the top hat icon on your Hogsmeade map. Right inside, on the lower counter, is the Demiguise.
From the North Hogsmeade Floo, go straight up the steps and continue forward to Brood and Peck, the unicorn horn icon on your map. Directly across from it, to your right, is a locked house. Use Alohomora to enter, and you'll find the Demiguise on the mantle above the fireplace.
Honeydukes will be visible just off the left of you from the North Hogsmeade Floo. Instead, take a left and follow the way up and around the corner to the left until you reach Honeydukes. There will be a small house there with a level one lock, and you'll see the Demiguise just inside, under a painting.
Take West Hogsmeade Floo, go up the steps and pass J. Pippin's on your left. It will be the first house beyond it with a level two lock. Use Alohomora to open it and go in and up the stairs to find the Demiguise.
Take a rest and climb the longer set of stairs from the West Hogsmeade Floo. At the bottom of the stairs, take a right and follow the path to the end to reach Hog's Head. Go around the left side of the bar into the back room, and you'll find the Demiguise there.
From the West Hogsmeade Floo Flame, take a left until you reach the long stairwell. Continue following the path straight, and you'll see two locked houses on your right. The second house with the round door is the one with the Demiguise. Use Alohomora level two to open it, and then go up the stairs to the second level. The Demiguise will be visible on the dresser.
Take the South Hogsmeade Floo Flame, then turn left and follow the path curving around further to the left. It is also the paper icon on your Hogsmeade map. Head out to the back of the counter and to the left of the eye-chest. The Demiguise is visible.
Now that you've found all of the Hogsmeade Demiguise Moons, you'll want to go further into the World Map to obtain the remainder that you need. These are the easiest and fastest choices for you to complete this quest:
Take the Floo to Upper Hogsfield, and continue straight forward, looking to your left for a locked house with a wheel leaning against the front. Use Alohomora to unlock it and go inside to find the Demiguise on a stool.
Lower Hogsfield Floo Flame, then turn around the face of the house behind the stone wall. It will be directly inside this house. You'll not need to unlock anything once you're inside, and it'll be there beside a dining table.
From Pitt-Upon-Ford Floo, head down the path to your left until you find a carriage in front on your right side. Head into the house and up the stairs. You'll see the Demiguise to your left beside a lamp and mirror.
Once you have all thirteen of these Demiguise Moons, return to the same Faculty Tower to find Mr. Moon waiting. He'll teach you the last upgrade for Alohomora, which means you may now enter any lock you find around Hogwarts and its grounds. He'll ask you to keep an eye on any more in the hopes that you'll uncover who is behind it.
How to Decipher Who Is Behind the Moons in Hogwarts Legacy
After getting the last upgrade of Alohomora, you will no longer need to find any more Demiguise, although you remain in the dark about who is responsible for it. Piers Pemberton accidentally addresses himself without meaning to, allowing you to track him down in Hogsmeade. Inform him that he attended Hogwarts alongside Mr. Moon and was bullied by him, thus causing him to retaliate against the Demiguise statues.
Mr. Moon will be surprised to hear this information back. He will thank you for your help and fly off to reunite with his previous "friend."
