Halle Bailey Discusses How Irrational It Was To Do A Live-Action Version Of The Little Mermaid ...

I was interested in learning more about how to record the underwater scenes when The Little Mermaid was announced. Both the crew and the cast, who must deal with both real and fake water, must deal with the physical challenges of taking on the role.

The remake of the classic musical is one of the most anticipated films of 2023 and has gotten much attention. People have discussed the casting, the music, and how it would be made. As Bailey explained in her YouTube video, creating an underwater world is a difficult task and requires tremendous physical strength.

I was in intense physical training for three months, then every single day I'd either be up in the air on wires or in the water all day. It was a great experience but I think my body, that was the hardest thing to do, and it's the most in shape Ive ever been in my life. But that's the biggest part I'm sure.

Bailey stated in the same video that she did not perform much underwater, mainly by using wires in the air and a tuning fork to simulate Ariels underwater world.

The times when I would be underwater was quite bizarre. I was in a huge water tank and a wave machine that would go. I cant wait till you guys actually see it, because youll know what I'm talking about. It felt like I was in the middle of the ocean.

It's been years and will take another one to complete this film. The filming seemed to be fun, but it was also very laborious. I'd also assume that if they did a lot of the underwater work outside of the water it'll take a lot of post-production work to construct the underwater kingdom.

The Little Mermaid was released as a teaser trailer for the film, although we'll have to wait until next year to see it. Bailey explained that the first time she saw herself in the film was an overwhelming experience, and she gets emotional just talking about it. This movie is a huge one, as she is the first Black woman to play a live-action Disney princess. It makes sense to be emotional.

In the days since the teaser was released, it became clear that this film will have a cultural impact. Parents recorded their Black daughters reacting to the trailer, demonstrating how eager the kids were to see themselves represented. Bailey responded to the reactions by saying she was overwhelmed with how much love she received from the kids.

On the other hand, people have reacted angrily to her suggestion that a Black woman should be playing the mermaid. However, many celebrities have come to her defense, including fellow Disney princess Rachel Zegler.

Bailey had to be physically strong for the shoot, and is now demonstrating how mentally strong and resilient she is while we wait for the film to release.
