Some child actors mature to become movie stars, while others leave the industry and lead a more regular lifestyle. Sadly, there are others who end up in trouble, and due to their former status, they do so with a spotlight still on them. Such has been the case of actor Ryan Grantham, who was arrested in 2020 for the murder of his own mother.
Ryan Grantham pleaded guilty to second degree murder in Canada in July, making the sentence a foregone conclusion. According to Deadline, grantham would be eligible for parole when he was 24 years old.
Ryan Grantham shot his mother in the back of the head in a small town north of Vancouver, BC, then loaded up his car and planned to murder Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In the end, however, he simply decided to confess to the crime. He was kept in custody for two years while awaiting trial.
Grantham was found to be having depressive episodes in the months leading up to his arrest, according to prosecutors. His sister testified that her mother was diagnosed with cancer at the time of her death.
Grantham had almost 40 film credits to his name before his arrest. His most recent role was in the role of Jeffrey Augustine, the character who killed Luke Perrys character during production of the program after Perry unexpectedly died of a stroke. He was also featured in films like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Supernatural.
Ryan Grantham's headlines will likely come to an end, at least until the parole issue becomes clear in several years' time. This outcome does appear to be tragic on many levels. While the prion sentence might be appropriate under the circumstances, it is unlikely to bring anyone the closure they need.
